Gallipoli vs Isonzo, Verdun & Tannenberg

The four games

Game Year Front What it is
Verdun 2015 Western Front The game that started the series, built around trench-line attrition and squad-based rifle combat.
Tannenberg 2019 Eastern Front Moved the series east, with larger, more open maps than Verdun's trench corridors.
Isonzo 2022 Italian Front Mountain warfare, and the game whose class and cosmetic systems Gallipoli directly rebuilds on.
Gallipoli 2026 Ottoman Fronts Beach landings and desert expeditions across the Gallipoli peninsula, Mesopotamia and the Sinai.

What Gallipoli changed

System In the earlier games In Gallipoli
Suppression Present as a combat effect Escalates in stages into a panic state: sway and recoil rise first, then hands shake, near misses cause flinching, and you may fail to close the bolt at the end of a reload.
Downed state Not in the series Enough damage to a non-vital body part such as a limb leaves you downed rather than dead. You cannot fight, only crawl to safety and wait for an ally to pick you up.
Ballistics Hitscan Hitscan is gone. Bullets have travel time based on each weapon's muzzle velocity and ammo type, with significant drop at maximum effective range and bigger damage fall-off differences between weapon types.
Reloads Single action Split into stages, so an interrupted reload resumes from the last checkpoint instead of restarting.
Stamina Limited role Sprinting, meleeing, jumping and vaulting all drain it, raising aim sway and cutting sprint speed. Being wounded lowers your stamina ceiling; being downed lowers it further. You can now sprint while crouched or prone.
Classes Class list per faction Ten classes, each with two kits carrying their own perk, equipment, weapon options, weight and ammo count.
Progression Unlocks gated content Everything is unlocked from first launch; levels add perks and cosmetics only.
Cosmetic DLC Large packs — one uniform per class, two factions Small packs — two uniforms for one faction, mixable across classes within a subfaction, at a lower price per pack.
Officer call-ins Called from set positions Callable from anywhere on the map, with options set by squad type.

Coming from Isonzo

You will recognise six of the ten classes — Officer, Rifleman, Engineer, Light Machine Gunner, Spotter and Sniper — though Spotter was the Mountaineer and Sniper was the Marksman. The four genuinely new ones are Ammo Bearer, Bomber, Heavy Machine Gunner and Stretcher Bearer, and they exist because of the new downed state and ammo economy. Selecting a kit works the same way it did in Isonzo, and your weapon choice saves inside the kit as before.

The bigger adjustment is the shooting. Weapons drag as you turn, your hand wobbles when aiming, and your arms tire if you hold a sight too long. Isonzo muscle memory will overshoot at range until you internalise bullet travel time.

Coming from Battlefield 1

Different genre expectations entirely. BlackMill describes Gallipoli as Milsim-lite: fast-paced, hardcore, one-shot-one-kill, at a level of accessible realism. There are no vehicles you pilot, no behemoths, no regenerating health — a limb hit downs you and a torso hit kills you. The historical setting is also treated seriously: the game was developed with assistance from historians and museums, and BlackMill ran a collaboration series with Jonathan Ferguson of the Royal Armouries on the actual weapons of the Ottoman Fronts.

If you want the mode itself explained before buying, see whether Gallipoli has a campaign — it does not — and the squads and call-ins page for how a 25-versus-25 sector fight is actually structured.
